Puia Geothermal Reserve, located in the heart of Rotorua, is renowned for its dramatic geothermal features and rich cultural experiences. History

Puia has been a significant site for the Māori people for centuries. It sits within the Te Whakarewarewa Valley, historically home to the Tūhourangi/Ngāti Wāhiao people. Since opening to visitors in 1963, Puia has served as a place to share Māori culture and heritage while showcasing the area’s geothermal activity. The New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute was established here to preserve traditional skills and knowledge.
